• Some lessons are cheap.......

some not so cheap, and you pay with your pride. How I learned to keep my emotions in check at the table: 20 minutes before I sat at the 3/6 full kill HE table they hit the bad beat jackpot for $15K. Guy that took the beat got $9K and proceeded to get DRUNK. Raised and reraised every pot every street...
  • Re: SHould I bother getting new books?
Lee Jones: Winning Low Limit Hold'em Sklansky - Hold'em Poker & Hold'em for Advanced Players
I agree with Stephen here about these three books but the Small Stakes Sklansky book you are reading now is absolutely key if you are only playing typical...

  • Re: SHould I bother getting new books?

Just blew $29.95 on a poker book. Respected authors, 98% was stuff I already knew. But, since I'm taking every opportunity to tweak my game, I'll take that 2%. If it wins you a pot it was worth it. The real value of reading every poker book you can get you hands on is when you start to recognize...

HE For Advanced Players is THE definitive Limit Hold'Em book. If you ever want to move up from small stakes I suggest you read all the material you can get. Most concepts are universal to all forms of poker. Honestly I don't rate these Low Limit books. Why learn to beat low limit when you can...

  • SHould I bother getting new books?

Hey all, I bought 2+2's "Small Stakes Hold em" awhile back and it's great. I wouldn't mind reading more, but I worry that it will take me off "my" game. Every other book talks about other games, even hold em books really cover no limit mainly. I do not plan to play anything...

  • Re: Good books on Hold'em math (odds)?

What's killing me are the "Guru" books that say something like this...(and they all say something like this.) "If a player can catch nine cards to make his hand, he knows he is a 38-9 underdog on the next round, assuming 47 unseen cards. However, he incorrectly doubles his outs to...

  • Re: Golden Opportunity

I played this game this past weekend and I do think it is beatable. My friend and I each bought in for $300 and he cashed out for $750 and I cashed out for $1200. The casino is still trying to figure this game out. Sitting in the last seat does give you the advantage of seeing what the other players...

Interesting that he would wait 9 months between the two different name sign ups Poker Playa. Besides, I always wanted some information on hold em odds books. Do they include multihanded scenarios? Otter

  • Re: Good books on Hold'em math (odds)?

The best two books with such content (and the only ones, as I know thus far) are: Mike Petriv’s “Hold’em Odds Book” Catalin Barboianu’s “Texas Hold’em Odds”. While the first is just perfect for a recreational player, the second is holding much more math and also has a higher coverage on odds and probability...
