Due to his pre-flop raise from the BB, you could have put him on Aces. So a re-raise here wouldn't be so bad... but it IS the river and you don't want to pay 3 bets JUST IN CASE he raised from the blind with QQ, JJ or AK of diamonds. The play was fine, don't get greedy.

Is it a profitable play in limit games to play the small pairs solely for the purpose of looking for your set on the flop? Suppose you hold 7-7 and there is a raise and a re-raise or a call or two in front of you, and your 7's almost certainly aren't good (or at the least will rarely hold up...
